Who can see the activity history on a file?

FileGrant automatically logs every action on every file — here's who can view that log and how to access it.

FileGrant automatically records all actions taken on every file, creating a complete and tamper-proof audit trail.

 

What gets logged

  • File opens (who, when, from which session)
  • Downloads
  • Content edits
  • Shares and access revocations
  • Tag additions and removals
  • Renames
  • Moves and copies
  • Adding to Favourites or hiding

 

Who can view the log

Role

Log access

File owner (Contributor / Admin / Super Admin)

Can see the full log in the Details panel → Activity tab.

Recipient (someone who received the file)

Can see their own actions in the Details panel, if the file is still in their area.

Admin / Super Admin

Have access to the full log for all files via the Audit section.

Reader

No access to the log.

 

 The log is read-only. You cannot edit or delete it. If you need a formal report for compliance or audit purposes, contact your administrator. 

How to access the log for your file

  1. Select the file.
  2. Click Details (top bar or ⋮ menu).
  3. Go to the Activity tab in the side panel.

 💡 Tip: If you want to know whether someone actually opened a file you shared, check the Activity tab — you'll see every access event with the exact date and time.
