How Do I Protect a Folder with a Password in FileGrant?

Setting and managing a password on a folder: attempts, lock, expiry and OTP recovery.

 

Add an extra layer of protection to any folder by setting a password.

How to Set a Password

  1. Click the three-dot menu next to the folder.
  2. Select Set Password.
  3. Configure the settings:

    Setting

    Description

    Password

    Minimum 4 characters.

    Owner Bypass

    When ON: the folder owner can access without entering the password. When OFF: the owner must also enter it.

    Max Failed Attempts

    Number of incorrect attempts before automatic lockout.

    Lockout Duration

    How long (in minutes) the folder stays locked after exceeding failed attempts.

    Session Duration

    How long (in minutes) the folder remains unlocked after a successful entry before requiring the password again.

    Expiration Date

    Optional. After this date, the password protection is automatically removed.

     

    Accessing a Password-Protected Folder

    Click the folder and enter the password. If correct, the folder stays open for the configured session duration.

    Editing or Removing a Password

    With the folder unlocked, click the three-dot menu ⋮ → Password. You have three options:

    • Edit — Change the password or update settings
    • Remove — Permanently disable password protection
    • Lock — Immediately lock the folder so the password is required on next access

    Forgot Your Password?

    1. Click Forgot Password on the folder access screen.
    2. You’ll receive an OTP code via email.
    3. Enter the code to unlock the folder.
    4. Set a new password.
