Why do I need download permission to use AI Summary and Document Chat?
It's a deliberate security choice: since both features read the full file content, they require the same access level as downloading.
AI Summary and Document Chat require download permission on the file. This isn't a technical glitch — it's a deliberate security decision.
The reason
Both features analyze the full content of the document to generate responses. From a security standpoint, this is equivalent to reading the entire file. Your admin has therefore chosen to make them available only to users who already have the access level needed to download — and thus fully read — the document.
What this means in practice
- Read-Only access without download permission → AI Summary and Chat are unavailable.
- Editor access with download permission → AI Summary and Chat are available.
- Editor access but download is blocked by a tag → AI Summary and Chat are unavailable.
This restriction is set by your administrator and cannot be bypassed. If you believe you need access to these features, contact the file sender or your IT administrator.
